Article#10: Roots

The title may seem to be a bit different, but the essence of this article will definitely give you a good feel by the end.
Every one of us move forward in our lives and we become so busy in our daily routine that sometimes we forget our roots, the place where we belong to, the people who were responsible for our well existence, the people who moulded us in an effective way, the things with which we had beautiful memories, the instances that taught us something and so on. Did you ever try to spend some time with your roots? If not, then take a break and give a try because it gives you immense energy and refreshment that nothing else in the world can.
Recently, I paid a visit to my hometown after almost a year. The time my station was getting closer, I was much excited to get out of the train. No idea why, but it’s an unknown awesome feeling every time I reach my hometown. May be just because my roots exist there. Yes, it’s the place where I was born, it’s the place where I learned the A,B,C,D ; it’s the place where I get unconditional love, it’s the place which I know end to end and can’t be missed somewhere. In short, it’s the place where I belong to. I even feel like having a strange connection with the people who get down in that station. It’s like as if I know every one of them but didn’t get a chance to talk with them anytime. When I was going to my home along with my father, I heard someone calling me from behind. I was unable to recognize for a while. But it was none other than my school friend with a completely changed face and beard on the top. In fact, it’s not the first time that I came across known people when I enter or exit the town. Every time I meet some known persons here and there. On my way home, I was involved in site seeing. It was like at a single moment, everything appears to be changed and also everything remained to be the same. The roads where I used to take a ride on bicycle with my friends was a cherishing memory.
My grandmother welcomed me at my home. It’s been a long time since I met her. In fact, the visit was especially for her. Every one of us in our family started competing with each other to talk, but there was no one ready to listen. I believe that’s the connection we have with our families. After I learned cooking, I felt that I am the best cook ever. But no, I have to say that I am the second best because my mom comes first in this case. Ghee idly with ginger chutney prepared by my mother is the best breakfast I had in the recent times. And to whatever extent I try, I cannot prepare the brinjal curry the way my mom cooks. It’s been a while since I was missing this kind of food. And my town is famous for its own variety of sweets especially the Kakinada Kaja. Although I am not a big sweet lover, I love to taste our kaja. On a pleasant evening, when I went out and tasted the half-pieced mirchi bajji(Chilli cutlet) with onions, chat, coriander, lemon, groundnut added on top of it, I felt as if I was in the heaven. Then I remembered the days when we never used to care about the distance we travelled on our bicycles but only targeted our favourite evening street food.
The time when we went for shopping, on the way looking at the old roads and new developments, I went nostalgic. My thoughts stuck at a park wherein I used to spend most of my pleasant evenings with my friends and also used to go for a jog early in the mornings. Then I remembered my old school friend who was an expert in the selections. My town offers a different type of clothing which is not available everywhere. I never know what suits me the best. I usually see only something that appears good. There are also some clothes that may not appear effective, but they fit for us the most. My friend knows such things. He always used to select the best for me. After I give a try, I was always unable to deny his selection.
During the middle of my stay, it was my birthday. From the time I got awareness of things around, all my birthdays till date were awesome. May it can be because I get everything new on that day, or may it can be because I get all my favourite food items on that day, or may it can be because I get ‘n’ number of wishes, or may it can be because I used to throw a party to my friends in my home, or may it can be because I receive lot of surprising gifts on that day, or may it can be because I watch a second show in theatres most of the times on that day or may it can be because I take a break from my daily routine. In short, it’s just because everyone makes me realize that it’s my day blocked in the calendar. As usual, this year as well my birthday went well with my family. Even a surprise visit of my college friends in the evening was a memorable one.
All the four days came to an end. Don’t know when and how, but I had to leave. The only things to take along with me were the memories :-)
On my way back, I met another school friend in the station coincidentally and later, after I got into the train, I encountered a lady who travelled with me on my journey to hometown. It’s a mere coincidence that we travelled to and fro on the same days, same coach, neighbouring seats. In fact, this was not the first time that I met someone in this way. Even earlier, I met an old man in the same way in which the concurrence was even more as the trains and their timings were too different for both the journeys, but we met in the neighbouring seats. I think that’s the connection I got with the people in my hometown. That day, the lady recognized me and in a short span, we became friends. The coincidence didn’t end at that point. There was another girl sitting beside us who even travelled earlier on the same day, same coach but just on a distant berth. Even she joined our conversation. Along with us, another software engineer as well engaged himself. All four of us had a wonderful chat. In the usual case, I only listen to songs during travel. But this time, I didn’t even get a chance to do that. This was another memorable experience.Apart from this, I even met my another bestie in one of the on-going stations.
To conclude, the thought here is, a tree cannot survive by separating itself from its roots. The same way, what makes us survive well and complete is the contact with our roots. So, although you are too busy in building up your life, take a pause and spend some time with your roots. Trust me, you’ll be back in an exciting and noticeable manner.
This is the end of my Tenth article, “Roots”. The next article is going to be on something that most of us dream to achieve. Stand by for its release :-):-)
