Article #64 : Triumph Over Trauma Returns
“The harder the conflict, the more glorious the Triumph”, What do you say?
In this Article, you are going to witness an interesting and inspiring real-life story that reemphasizes on Triumph over Trauma
This story is close to my heart as it is about my best friend Mahesh Mylavarapu. With his consent, today I am going to share it.
The story starts way back in the year 2009 when Mahesh migrated to Hyderabad for building up his life. Dreams in his mind, Hope in his eyes and luggage in his hands, he had no idea on how to start, from where to start his living in the gigantic city. The only asset that he had was his communication skills.
After 3 days, He landed up in the job of an insurance agent. It was a field job, he had to roam around the unknown city along with a senior for first few days to understand the process of convincing people to take up an insurance policy after which he had to lead the process on his own.
Things were not easy since Mahesh had to roam throughout the day irrespective of the climate and seasonal differences, irrespective of weekdays or weekends or even public holidays and most importantly, irrespective of his own interests. Apart from that, he had to get hold of the people, the clients, convince them and ensure he meet his target for the day. In the middle of nowhere lies his own dream of becoming a director, so he joined in a coaching institute to learn Multimedia.
For Mahesh, the day used to start at 5:30 AM, cook for himself a small box of pickle or curd rice and catch a nearby city bus by 7 AM, travel around 15 kms to reach the institute and after the class, again travel for another 10 kms by changing two city buses and reach office by 9:30 AM. Then he would be assigned the daily targets post which he had to call the customers, take an appointment, travel for another 20 or 30 Kms depending on the customer’s location and meet them. He used to have his small box of pickle or curd rice as lunch sitting somewhere at the corner of a moving city bus and used to drink the municipal water wherever he could find. His field work continued to happen post lunch until late night around 10 PM after which he had to again cook for himself, eat and go for sleep.
There were times when the customers were not available after Mahesh used to travel for 40 Kms to their respective locations, there were times when he used to get no response from customers to his calls and then there were times when customers were not convinced due to lack of trust issues since only private insurances had to be sold by him. There were even times when Mahesh had to experience severe leg pains after roaming throughout the day, experience sun stroke, cold, fever and what not.
On the whole, Mahesh experienced Trauma in his life never like before, but do you think he got the deserving Triumph over Trauma? Here comes the twist in the tale.
After 3 months of journey covering an insurance amount of 1,85,000, Mahesh was informed for the first time that it was just his probation period and he wouldn’t be given any salary for that. He felt that he was deceived by the insurance company and left the job.
Although he tried joining another insurance company, he had to leave that too in a week due to lack of interest and patience to make his ends meet. He continued with his course on Multimedia.
After 5 months, Mahesh joined as an assistant proof reader in a Designing Studio Company. Fortunately, he was provided a cab to the office, the roads where he roamed tirelessly on his legs paved a path for him to travel in an A/C cab.
Within 2 years, he was promoted and even awarded as the Best Employee of the year. Felicitation was done for him along with his parents in a 5-star hotel which according to him is the best moment in his life. This was the beginning of his Triumph over Trauma.
One more year passed by, and the company where he was working was taken over by another Service-based IT company. Mahesh became an L&D lead and received so many appreciations & awards for his remarkable work.
After a year, He was promoted as Assistant Manager, but soon after that, unfortunately he lost his father. This turned out to be another Trauma in his life. Before he could recover from that, his mother experienced a heart attack and was hospitalized. Still, while continuing the job, he did MBA as per his father’s last wish.
After another year, he moved into another service-based IT company as Operations Manager.
Two more years passed by. Mahesh put enormous effort for 3 months and finally got into a giant product-based company with 150% hike as HR Manager.
Now Mahesh stays in his own house that he named after his father, drives his own car, keeps challenging himself every now and then only to achieve the Triumph irrespective of the Trauma that he experiences in his personal or professional life. Don’t you think his story is an inspiration for us?
Just like how Mahesh experienced Traumatic situations in his life, every one of us would have also experienced some distressful events at some point in our lives, but what counts is to what extent we try to unwind ourselves and try to achieve the success.
As the saying goes, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”
So, let’s believe in the fact that the Traumas happen in our lives only to give us the much-needed Triumphs. What do you say? Let me know in the comments below.
