Article#39: Captain Giridhar

“The seas may be rough. But I am the  captain!  No matter how difficult, I will always Prevail” said Jack Sparrow, the fictional character from the pirates of the  Caribbean  film. Coincidentally, it’s the same thing that was running in my mind when I became the president of the club. It’s a huge responsibility in a volunteer organization like Toastmasters which is the only place where leaders lead the team with the passion and  commitment  of the members.   This Article is about my experience as the President of a Toastmasters Club. It was 1 year since I became part of the club. I was interested in taking one of the leadership roles like earlier. But to my surprise, most of the club members wanted me to be the President. Although I was unconfidently confident, I thought that I should do it and gain the experience.   Moving on from the background story, it was the day when the elections happened and I was announced as the president of the c...

Article#38: Experience Matters

"Experience is not what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens to you” one of the best quote that I read ever. Chasing the traffic on your way to office is an experience, Managing Toastmasters activities along with your office work is an experience, performing on the stage now and then is another experience. Whatever it is, experience is experience and it matters. How? Well, let me narrate you an altogether different experience from my personal life.   It was July 2019, exactly 6 months after my second solo trip. I felt that I should start prepping up for the next destination. After some R&D, I decided to visit the paradise on earth, Kashmir. I interacted with few travel agents and finalized the best deal. The itinerary was impressive, it starts from Srinagar-> Pahalgam-> Gulmarg-> Sonmarg->Kargil->Leh->Nubra Valley->Pangong Lake. I was very much excited about the trip although I was little afraid of those destinatio...

Article#37: Love is in the Air

How many of you experienced love in your life? Great, how about love at first sight? Superb, it’s an amazing feeling. Isn’t it? We tend to forget everything and everyone around when we are in love. World looks brighter, days start shining, you smile without proper reasons, the enthusiasm, energy, excitement, confidence, a blend of emotions wrapped in you just like a kheer full of cashew, almond, and raisin, after all love is in the air. Well, this article is about my cooked up stories on this phrase called “Love is in the air”.  It was the time when I was in school. Unlike other students in my class, I was calm, decent and little boring. One fine day during our exams, I was in a daze on what to write because I didn’t prepare well. I was looking here and there, all of a sudden, the most beautiful girl in our class smiled at me with an exclamation in her face. I was confused and looked back, to and FRO to confirm if she was referring me. To my surprise, she nodded with a yes. I c...

Article#36: Marriages are made in heaven

When I was a kid, I used to wonder how marriages are made in heaven because I could see marriages happening on earth itself. Later, I understood the meaning behind this proverb, but never believed that there’s a reason for everything until I experienced it. Well, in this article, I am going to narrate my match-making consultation story with some spice added wherever required to make it interesting.  In India, Marriages play a vital role as they involve bringing two families together more than two individuals. Maybe that is the reason we have lot of pre-checks before each and every step when it comes to a marriage. The horoscopes of boy and girl needs to be verified at both the ends, photo exchange happens, everyone in both the families should like the photo, then they go for match-making consultation wherein the guy’s family visit the girl’s house to see her in person and discuss on the further proceedings. I was at this point few months ago.  It was the first time I was...

Article#35: Blessing in Disguise

How many of you met someone whom you felt bad at first, but later found to be the other way around? We usually judge a book by its cover, don’t we? Well, as part of this article, I am going to narrate you about a special person in my life whom I feel as a blessing in disguise. It was 7 years since I turned out to be an IT Professional. I came across so many people of different ages, interacted with many, mingled with some, but at the end of the day, they are highly professionals. No offences to anyone. Beating around the bush, then I met this one who is a sandwich short of a picnic just like me. Initially I found him to be infuriating at work, but slowly I understood that he is just full of beans. That similarity hit the right chord in me. That’s it, the rest is history, and we became friends. We had our own set of giggles, surprises, moments, freak outs and even battles together. There was not a single day wherein we hadn't had a fight for small of the smallest reasons. But, u...

How many of you heard the famous Akbar Birbal Stories? Well, this article is one of those interesting stories that emphasizes on being good to others. Birbal was the most loved minister for Emperor Akbar because of his wit and wisdom. However, a group of ministers were jealous of his growing popularity and disliked him intensely. They even chalked out a plan to kill Birbal with the help of King’s Barber by offering the barber a huge sum of money. As soon as the King needed the services of the barber, the barber started this way “Your Majesty, I used to serve for your father as well. His hair was so smoothy and silky that I enjoyed my services for him. With all due respect and permission, I would like to ask you a question” The king who became happy on hearing the praises for his father asked the barber to go ahead. The barber asked, “Maharaj, you are the emperor now. You are enjoying lot of prosperity and respect in the kingdom that you inherited from your ancestors. Did yo...

Article#33: The ‘Insider’

How many of you heard the role, IDM in our IT Industry? Do you know its full form? Infrastructure Development Manager. To brief about the role, it includes handling the entire infrastructure setup starting from basic desktops, laptops to servers located in Data Center, patch management, antivirus, etc. Before you assume that I am going little technical, let me confess that I am the solo IDM for my account. This article is about how my insider reacts to certain situations in my role. Early in the morning with sleepy eyes I pick up my phone without even looking properly who calls me. To my surprise, I hear “Giridhar, Internet is not working in office”. I would respond saying, “Please check with network team”. But there’s another version to this response. The insider says, “How can you call me early in the morning? It’s not even 9 AM”. I get ready and reach to office. I start searching for a place to park my vehicle. Ms. A comes to me and says, “Giridhar, I have a serious issu...
