Article#35: Blessing in Disguise

How many of you met someone whom you felt bad at first, but later found to be the other way around? We usually judge a book by its cover, don’t we? Well, as part of this article, I am going to narrate you about a special person in my life whom I feel as a blessing in disguise.
It was 7 years since I turned out to be an IT Professional. I came across so many people of different ages, interacted with many, mingled with some, but at the end of the day, they are highly professionals. No offences to anyone. Beating around the bush, then I met this one who is a sandwich short of a picnic just like me. Initially I found him to be infuriating at work, but slowly I understood that he is just full of beans. That similarity hit the right chord in me. That’s it, the rest is history, and we became friends. We had our own set of giggles, surprises, moments, freak outs and even battles together. There was not a single day wherein we hadn't had a fight for small of the smallest reasons. But, ultimately we didn’t break.
Days passed by and then this news shattered us, the sudden demise of his father. I was afraid if I could find my friend in the normal way again because he loves his father more than himself. It went out of my hand to console him. I couldn’t understand anything. He was affected so am I. I started off to his hometown to offer my condolences. He was at the worst as he couldn’t get over it. I was there to pull him out of it at least to some extent. Tried my best to divert his attention, but failed multiple times. Then I had to go back to the drawing board. The outcome was an amazing idea, a present for that moment that he could never forget in his life. I remember having his family pic together. Immediately I ran to the nearby photo studio and sat with the people there, got this pic turned into an attractive and huge frame. The photographer was impressed by the idea. I was curious to see the smile back on my friend’s face. After all the wrappings, I presented it to my friend saying that if he doesn’t like, he could return it to me. He was surprised to see his father along with him and his family in the pic at least. Then he got little emotional, but finally I could find that smile on his face with happiness for a while. I felt that my visit to his town was justified.
Hold your horses!! You think only I went that extra mile? No, a year ago, I met with an accident, the worst ever in my life. I experienced severe injuries on my hands and legs along with my teeth broken. My family was miles away, no one in the town. I informed my friend. He rushed to my home with food and medicine. Both of us had to take an off not only for work, but also for Toastmasters due to my condition. Starting from applying ointment, tablet swallow (which was the most difficult task in my case from childhood) to serving food and diverting my attention from the physical pain, he left no stone unturned. Even the next day, by accompanying me to the hospital, he ensured to keep my chin up.
Apart from all this, even today, we argue, we fight, sometimes in a silly way and sometimes seriously. But most of the times, the very next day, we let the sleeping dogs lie. We accept each other as the way we are and are there for each other during all the times. Needless to say, that we are a blessing in disguise for each other. Most of the times, we go beyond wrong people ignoring the right ones who appear to be wrong. So, all you need to do is think for a while and have the wrongly right people along with you. Wish you all the best J
