Article #78 : Benching

How many of you heard the term "Benching" in the context of the modern dating era? Well, it simply means keeping a person as a backup in case if someone is not able to find or continue their relationship with whom they like to. More or less, it is similar to the concept of Bench in our corporate world wherein we would be called to fill someone's position or role if they are not able to find or continue the project with a primary person.

With the overload of Technology, these days finding a partner for dating is no tough job. Two right swipes on an app lead to the meeting of two wrongly wiped people, Tinku and Rinku. 

Tinku meets Rinku in a pinku city, I mean Pink city Jaipur. Their first conversation goes well at a nearby cafe to the popular Hawa Mahal although they couldn't get the required 'Hawa', I mean air at the place. They exchange their contacts before the moments change. They feel that they have a chemistry although they are a mystery for each other.

The next day morning Tinku takes the initiative based on his intuitive and strikes the conversation 

"Good morning" 

"Very Good Morning"

"What's up?"

"Nothing, just WhatsApp"

"Breakfast?"

"No, it's a fast"

"Work from Office?"

"No, Work from Home"

"Alone?"

"Yeah but not lonely"

"Meet up?"

"No, let's catch up"

Tinku and Rinku again meet that evening at Jantar Mantar. This time Rinku starts the conversation 

"Are you interested in Astronomy?"

"No I am only interested in Astrology"

"Oh, are you a palm reader?"

"Yes I am also a calm reader"

"Tinku you are funny"

"Of course Honey"

"Ok tell me How is my future going to be?"

"You are likely to lead your future with a most handsome person like me"

"Are you proposing me indirectly?"

"No I am opposing you, it's only a prediction"

"Then where are you planning to take our relationship?"

"For now, let's stay in this situationship"

Rinku gets impressed with Tinku's sense of humour and falls flat for him. Suddenly she notices Tinku's mobile ringing and he immediately moves away from her to attend the call. Since there's no commitment between them Rinku stays calm.

The next day Rinku tries to message and call Tinku, but couldn't get any response from him. In her silky hair, she shows her sulky side being a girl. After two days, she gets a response from Tinku apologizing her and asking her to meet as he was out of station for some urgent work.

As they meet at Amber Fort, Tinku makes an arrangement to let Rinku sit on an elephant howdah and proposes her in an unusual way. It's a dream come true moment for Rinku and she quickly accepts the proposal. 

Rinku's association increases with the clouds as she not only works on cloud technology, but also on cloud nine with her relationship. But then again at Jal Mahal she notices Tinku running away from her to answer a call. This time she asks him

"Tinku, who is it?"

"My friend"

"Just Bend"

"Are you going to mend?"

"No I am only going to end my confusion"

As Tinku bends, Rinku notices her cousin. She says that she has a dentist appointment and needs to leave immediately. Tinku bids her adieu and calls someone. After 10 minutes, as per her plan, Rinku again arrives at the spot and catches Tinku red-handedly with her cousin. As she speaks with her cousin, she understands that Tinku has been benching with her all this while. Both Rinku and her cousin in their full makeup, breakup with Tinku who wake up with no take up.

As we understand from the story, Benching someone is not so tough these days. But the least people would realise that Benching is no less than cheating and can lead to a heart wrenching situation of atleast 3 people. At the end of the day, the one who benches will be neither fish nor fowl. What do you say?
