Article#4: Depression
A scary term to hear. What is this so called Depression? How does it arise? Is there a way to come out of it? If so, what is that? Well, this article gives you all the answers. Read on.
Depression is defined as a condition wherein an individual stops being with himself. It can arise due to reduction in one’s confidence levels. The reasons can vary from personal to professional. Again, I believe there are two types here, one is something that leads gradually and the other an immediate one, a kind of shock. Whatever the case it may be, one suffers the same way. Most of us would have been into depression at any time, knowingly or unknowingly. But what is important is how we overcome this situation and be back to the normal state. The first thing here is identifying that we are in that mode, then having a strong zeal to come out of it and deal with the trouble/problem.
If someone asks me whether I had experienced depression, then I say, yes I was in depression two years back from now for almost two-three months due to professional reasons. In fact, it’s the time that I was supposed to be on top of the world because my long-life dream came true and I started staying in my own flat. But I became too helpless and was a victim of something that I was not responsible for, that I was not intended to be. Tried hard to fight with the problem, but unable to get it resolved and even not able to arrive at some optimum solution. Slowly, steadily I went into depression. It took some time for me to realize that I was not okay at all because I lost myself somewhere. The issue (may it can be the reason or depression) was not something that can be taken easily, not something that can be ignored especially when you are not supposed to deserve it. But the time when I realized that I had to come out of it by any means, I started doing many new things which I haven’t done before and of course added some creativity as well to what I do. To a major extent, I succeeded in all the things that I tried new. Gradually, those things brought my confidence back as they made me realize that I was a blend of various skills, At the same time I even found a solution to the problem and also realized that not everything can be dealt in a straight way or directly. There is also an indirect way to deal with the circumstances. I started applying that indirect way and was back with a bang.
Some people feel that depression arrives when one starts staying alone, but I don’t think so because being alone is different from experiencing loneliness. You can be in a crowd, but still there are chances that you may feel lonely. On the other hand, you may be alone, but are happy with your own company and privacy. It doesn’t mean that people who can enjoy being alone does not enjoy with anyone else. That just varies from person to person. Here the soul theories come into picture which I read somewhere. If you are dare enough and happy by staying alone, it means that you are an experienced soul. And if you are afraid of staying alone, it just means that you are a new soul on earth. The comparison comes by considering the fact that children fear for staying alone rather than elder people, which means children are new to the world and always need someone to be in and around whereas it’s not the case with elders.
Some others go into depression gradually by just comparing themselves to their known people. But do you think a comparison is required here? Like I told in my second article, no one is born perfect, everyone has their own positives and negatives. One cannot be efficient in all the aspects, but can reach heights in their passionate aspect. So even if people compare you with someone, you shouldn’t compare yourself with anyone.
For some people, it gets hard to digest the fact that their loved ones are no more and in such cases there are chances that they can go into immediate depression. But that is the time wherein the people around should come into picture and take care of them to divert their thoughts because it’s not going to be the end of the world with that only someone. May be it’s not easy in practical, but should give a try at least.
The ways to come out of depression are many, like the one that I did. Start involving yourself in something that you haven’t done before and try to achieve success there, you’ll get your confidence. Then even identify your passionate areas and implement them, you’ll get everything. Express yourself as much as you can with your dear ones. If you would like to cry, do it. Let all that thing come out of you as much as it can. Well, here lies another point. Men are not expected to cry in our society and not even expected to share their feelings unlike women. If some man is found crying, he’ll be the one people laugh at. But why? When we are striving for equality, why men are taken for granted in this case? Is it that men are not born as human? And men don’t have any feelings? I read somewhere that it’s hard for men to come out of depressions and breakups when compared to women. The reason is that men always swallow everything within themselves and not ready to accept that they have a problem, not expressive as they were brought up in that way. The society expects them to be only in that way. But I believe there has to be a change in this way of thinking.
The final message here is, stay strong and never let depression rule/ruin you. Trust me, nowhere there exists a lock that doesn’t have a key. In the same way, there won’t be a problem without solution. The only pending task from our end would be just to discover and arrive at the key/solution.
Here comes the end of my fourth article, “Depression”. The next article is going to be on a generic topic. Stay tuned. Here’s Giridhar signing off for the day :-)
